CAMIGUIN - BOHOL BY LAND

My family decided to travel by land to Camiguin and Bohol since we have relatives from both places. From Davao, we used our family car to travel. We visited Cagayan de Oro first which took us around 5-6 hours.

Along the road, we saw many unusual vehicles like a "skylab" , a "customized vehicle" that can carry more than your average motorcycle.

Upon arriving in CDO, we needed to cross the sea going to Camiguin. We had to go all the way to Balingoan, Misamis Oriental to ferry the car via RORO (roll-on/roll-off). Of course, we couldn't leave our puppy at home so we brought her! :)

RORO - Roll-on/roll-off (RORO or ro-ro) ships are vessels designed to carry wheeled cargo, such as cars, trucks, semi-trailer trucks, trailers, and railroad cars, that are driven on and off the ship on their own wheels or using a platform vehicle, such as a self-propelled modular transporter. CAMIGUIN

Camiguin is an island province in the Philippines located near the Bohol Sea. It is politically part of the Northern Mindanao Region and formerly a part of Misamis Oriental province. It is famous for its delicacy "Pastel".

We visited my dad's friend and they gave us a tour in the nearby waterfalls and cold spring.

TUASAN FALLS

This waterfalls is located near the main highway. We were fortunate because we were toured by my dad's friend. Before reaching the place, we were able to feel the cool breeze and nature's serenity. We wanted to stay long because of the calmness of the waters but we didn't have enough time.

STO. NINO COLD SPRING

There are a lot of hot and cold springs scattered around the island of Camiguin due to its four stratovolcanoes. The Sto. Nino Spring is just one of them. When we arrived, we saw tons of tourists and locals enjoying a nice dip in the spring.

I was so excited to take a dip in the cold spring but it was so chilly. I am very sensitive to low temperature but it felt like the water was calling me and I couldn't resist it. Nevertheless, I tried. I only swam for less than an hour due to its coldness.

SUNKEN CEMETERY

This is one of the most famous tourist spots in Camiguin. "In the 1870s, a volcano near this place erupted and caused the cemetery along with the capital city surrounding it to sink below sea level. In order to commemorate this place of loss, a looming cross was built in remembrance." Because of that, visitors marvel at this man-made cemetery-turned-into-a-tourist attraction.

There were treasure troves of souvenir items sold in the area. And they were so cheap! :)

WHITE ISLAND

Coming from the port of Camiguin, we searched the area for a place to spend the night. We found a homey inn called Casa Esperanza. The couple who owned the inn were very welcoming and accommodating which made our stay quite pleasant.

Looking around the area for food, we found numerous resorts, inns and restaurants in the vicinity, making looking for a meal easy. Some are a little bit pricey and other are budget friendly. After eating a hearty supper, we decided to call it a day.

We got up early in the morning and immediately went to White Island to witness the sunrise. Indeed, it was a majestic view.

The sunrise made this sandbar a very scenic spot!

We also found sea urchins sold by locals around the island.

We traveled to White Island by boat for only P5-P10.

The sand was so white and fine that I can compare it with the sand from Boracay.

GOING TO BOHOL

Traveling from Camiguin to Bohol, we took another RORO.

BOHOL

Chocolate Hills is always a must-visit in Bohol. I have been here many times. At that time, the view deck was being repaired following the big earthquake that struck Bohol in 2013, but still the view was stunning.

On the way back from Chocolate Hills, we passed by the man-made forest to take some pictures. One of the most usual photos tourists take here is of themselves sitting on the road, ours is a different pose though.

Other than the forest and hills, we were able to have our fill of sand and sea.

The Philippines has a lot of natural tourist spots such as natural springs. Bohol boasts also of it's natural cold springs.

We passed by some of the Catholic churches in Bohol. The ancient churches were under renovation because of the earthquake that happened years back.

To finish off the trip, we met with our many relatives from Candijai, Bohol. It was nice getting to know them and knowing that I have a lot of relatives from a lot of areas in Bohol.

Traveler: There is only one mall in Bohol, City Mall, in Tagbilaran.
